Barnum Ball Auction Winners Ride To School In Bethel Police Car
BETHEL, Conn. -- The winners of the Barnum Ball auction in Bethel received a ride to school in a police car Friday, April 1. Their parents reportedly hope it will be the last time the kids are in the back seat of a police vehicle. The Bethel Education Foundation held the Barnum Ball on March 19.

Health Officials Declare Bridgeport School Water Safe
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Health officials have found the water in fountains and sinks in Bridgeport schools to be lead-free, according to the Connecticut Post. However, there were at least three instances of elevated levels of lead in fixtures where water collects for extended periods of time among the 31 schools tested, the Connecticut Post reported. A faucet at Bridgeport Military Academy, a fountain from Dunbar School and a sample from Hall School all yielded elevated readings, said the Connecticut Post. Pelham's Picture House Launches Science On Screen Series With 'The Martian'
PELHAM, N.Y. -- The Picture House will launch its Science on Screen film series with "The Martian" on Sunday, April 17. Commander Joel of the Lower Hudson Valley Challenger Center will lead a discussion and Q&A following the screening. "The Martian" stars Matt Damon as an astronaut presumed dead and left to survive on the surface of Mars. New York Sees Huge Increase In Texting While Driving Tickets
The number of tickets for texting while driving has increased 840 percent in New York State, according to Gov. Abandoned Buildings Face Wrecking Ball After Stratford Fire
STRATFORD, Conn. -- Two abandoned buildings that caught on fire on Sunday will be destroyed, according to Stratford Star. As previously reported, firefighters battled a blaze in the buildings near East Main Street and Frog Pond Lane for several hours on Sunday afternoon. Fire Marshal Brian Lampart declared on Monday that the two buildings were damaged beyond repair in the brush fire, Stratford Star said. YONKERS, N.Y. -- A Key Food supermarket and CVS will open at the location of a former A&P on Nepperhan Avenue, according to News 12 Hudson Valley. Residents in the neighborhood have been using Walgreens and other supermarkets since A&P closed in 2015, News 12 Hudson Valley reported.
