Ossining Hosts Naloxone Training
OSSINING, N.Y. -- The Ossining Elks Lodge will host a free Naloxone training event on Wednesday, April 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Naloxone, also known as Narcan, can be administered to an individual experiencing a heroin or opioid-induced overdose. The drug can temporarily reverse an overdose to allow for emergency service personnel to provide treatment when administered promptly. Show Your Pride With A Scarsdale Raiders Lawn Sign
SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Maroon and White, the parent booster organization for Scarsdale High School athletics, is inviting supporters to display a Raiders lawn sign in celebration of the group's 50th anniversary. Lawn signs feature the Raiders logo and are available for $50. They will be delivered around May 1. Maroon and White raises funds to pay for activities and items that are not covered by the school's budget. The organization holds the annual Kari Pizzatola basketball tournament. Cat In The Hat Visits Tarrytown Schools
TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Characters from the musical "Seussical" paid a visit to Tarrytown's elementary schools in advance of the upcoming production at Sleepy Hollow High School. The Cat in the Hat, Horton the elephant, Gertrude McFuzz and Jojo performed some of the show's songs for students at John Paulding and Winfred Morse and visited with students at Washington Irving during lunch. Rye Arts Center Feels The Blues
RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye Arts Center will kick off its RAC – Live! music series on Saturday. Guitarist and vocalist George Kilby Jr., blues harmonicist and vocalist Phil Wiggins, and bassist and vocalist Sherman Holmes (formerly of the Holmes Brothers) will play their progressive blues style for the inaugural concert. OSSINING, N.Y. -- Tim Stanley, founder of Native Beeology, will give a presentation on native bees at Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining on Tuesday, April 19. Stanley will discuss the hidden lives of the 477 species of native pollen bees in New York and their significance in the ecosystem. Scarsdale Library Talk Examines Bulgarian Uprising
SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- The Scarsdale Public Library will host a presentation on the Bulgarian uprising that led to World War I on Monday, April 18. Walt Johanson will discuss the "April Uprising" of 1876 and how the American, British and Russian responses eventually led to the First World War. Johanson formerly taught social studies at Mount Vernon High School and served in the Navy. The presentation begins at 7 p.m.

Somers Holocaust Memorial Commission Holds Gathering
SOMERS, N.Y. -- The Somers Holocaust Memorial Commission will present its annual program at Somers High School on May 4. Cantor Debra Katcho-Gray of Congregation Shir Shalom discuss "Music of the Holocaust" as guest speaker. The Somers High School band, chorus and orchestra will perform. Thirty dancers from the Ridgefield Conservatory will also perform at the program. Students from North Salem High School will participate. Artistic projects created by students will also be on display. The program will begin at 7 p.m.

Briarcliff Destination Imagination Team Competes At Regionals
BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- Briarcliff Middle School's 1st Dibbs team recently competed in the 2016 New York Destination Imagination Regional Tournament at Mercy College. “This is the first year the team is working together, and they are doing a fantastic job at thinking fast and coming up with really creative ideas,” said adviser Jodi Shearer. “They competed against much more seasoned teams and did a great job for their first time out.” The team competed in the Close Encounters competition's middle level, which involved completing a team challenge and a surprise instant challenge.
