Bedford Celebrates Arbor Day
BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Bedford will celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting ceremony at the Canine Commons Dog Park on April 16. Supervisor Chris Burdick will read the annual Town of Bedford Arbor Day proclamation on behalf of the Town Board. A representative of the NYS DEC will present the "Tree City USA" designation award on behalf of the National Arbor Day Foundation to Bedford if scheduling permits. CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School students recently concluded Parents as Reading Partners Month with after school library expeditions. “I was really pumped up by all the books on the shelves in our school library,” said Claire Hilbert, a PTA volunteer who started the effort last year. “I thought the kids probably didn’t have enough time to explore all of these great books.” The PTA began the expeditions last year to teach students how to find books of interest and teach them how fiction and non-fiction books are organized differently.
