Events In Dover Plains, Amenia Focus On Addiction Prevention
DOVER PLAINS, N.Y. -- The Council on Addiction Prevention and Education will host events on ending opioid addiction in Dover Plains on Wednesday and in Amenia on Saturday, April 23. Participants will learn the signs of addiction, where to help, how to safely dispose of unused prescription drugs and learn how to administer naloxone to treat an overdose. Each event is open to the community. Participants only need to RSVP for the naloxone training portion of the events. Dutchess County Executive Molinaro Reads To Preschool Kids In Poughkeepsie
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and Legislator Hannah Black read to the children of the Louis Greenspan Day Care Center in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday. The county released a video of Molinaro reading Dr. Seuss' "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" to the kids. The Louis Greenspan Day Care Center is at Dutchess Community College.

Scarsdale's Weinberg Nature Center Sponsors Spring Recess Vacation Club
SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Weinberg Nature Center will host Spring Recess Vacation Club from Monday, April 25, to Friday, April 29. Spring Recess Vacation Club is geared toward kids ages 4-10 and will feature a different theme each day, along with spring-inspired activities, crafts, a snack and Weinberg's animals. BREWSTER, N.Y. -- Putnam County is observing Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month, beginning with Friday's planting of a pinwheel garden. “Pinwheels are a happy and uplifting token of childhood. North Salem Hosts Bees, Trees, Butterflies
NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library will present "Bees, Trees and Butterflies," a panel discussion on pollinators and native flora, on Sunday, April 17. Peter Farina will discuss bees, Jim Nordgren will cover trees and Maraleen Manos-Jones will present butterflies. Pam Pooley will moderate the panel. A Q&A session will follow the presentation. Putnam Historical Society Discusses 'Hanging Captain Gordon'
PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The Putnam Valley Historical Society will host "Hanging Captain Gordon" with educator, historian and author Ron Soodalter at the Putnam Valley Grange Hall on Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m. Soodalter will discuss the events that led to the execution of Nathaniel Gordon. A sea captain from a respected Portland, Maine, family, Gordon was the only man in U.S. history to be hanged for slave trading. Stamford Native Retires After 32 Years As L.A. Lakers' Trainer
STAMFORD, Conn. -- Head athletic trainer Gary Vitti is retiring after 32 seasons and eight championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to NBA.com. The Lakers honored Vitti with a video tribute and custom gift between the first and second quarters at their April 3 game against the Boston Celtics, NBA.com reported. Mariano Rivera Delivers Keynote Address At Latino Youth Conference
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera will deliver the 4th annual Latino Youth Leadership Conference's keynote address on Saturday, April 16. As previously reported, more than 400 Latino teens from across New York will participate in workshops on cultural identity, leadership, college and career planning and the Latino vote. The conference takes place at New Rochelle High School from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Rivera will lead an hour-long discussion with parents following his address to the students.
