Harrison Hosts Relay For Life
HARRISON, N.Y. -- Harrison High School will host a Relay for Life cancer fundraising event on Saturday, June 4. Participating parents and students will walk a candle-lit track in honor of cancer victims and survivors to raise money for research from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. As of press time, 43 teams have raised more than $44,000. Trumbull Board Of Finance Chairman Runs For State Senate Seat
TRUMBULL, Conn. — Republicans have selected Elaine Hammers, chairman of Trumbull's Board of Finance, to run against incumbent Marilyn Moore for the 22nd State Senate District, according to Connecticut Post. Hammers served in the state House of Representatives in the 1990s for a single term, Connecticut Post reported. She also served as Trumbull's director of Finance from 1999 to 2002 and on the state Board of Labor Relations, Trumbull’s Civil Service Board and the state Affordable Housing Study Commission, said Connecticut Post. POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Grace Smith House in Poughkeepsie will host its third annual Connect 4 Respect: Leadership Institute program this summer. Connect 4 Respect will take place from July 12 through 15 at Dutchess Community College from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free, four-day leadership program is open to 15 Dutchess County middle school leaders. PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Woodside Elementary School recently hosted its 1st Annual Multilingual Poetry Café in honor of National Poetry Month. Thirty-eight kindergarten and first grade students performed an original or favoritepoems at the Poetry Café before parents, teachers, administrators and staff. Poems focused on family, friendship, favorite animals and the poets themselves. Poems were performed in English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese and Mandarin Chinese. Peekskill Senior Group Risks Disappearing' At Croton Magic Show
CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Members of the Peekskill Senior Center recently visited the Bethel Springvale Inn Assisted Living Residence for an afternoon of magic tricks. Almost 75 members experienced levitation, sleight of hand, card tricks and mind games from magician and Inn chef Michael Bochar during the lunchtime visit.
