Fairfield Giants Cheer Team Ready For National Stage FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield Giants Junior Midget cheer team is ready and waiting in Florida to strut its stuff in the Pop Warner National Cheer and Dance championships. The girls left Fairfield on Friday and arrived in Orlando, Fla., over the weekend. They will compete on Wednesday. Fairfield University Basketball Player Named Conference Rookie Of The Week FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Danbury’s Casey Smith was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week after averaging 14 points per game for Fairfield University in two women’s basketball games. Smith, a sophomore, transferred after one year at St. Joseph’s University. She was red-shirted last year at Fairfield. Stamford Veteran's Fishing Event Reels In Gifts For Disabled Heroes STAMFORD, Conn. -- Hooks for Heroes, an annual fishing event held at Stamford's Halloween Yacht Club in Stamford, raised money that went to directly to Operation Gift Cards.
