New Principal Takes Over At Walter Panas High School CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Keith Yi took over as the new principal at Walter Panas High School in Cortlandt at the beginning of January. Yi has been interacting with students, staff and community since his arrival on Jan. 5. Yi previously served as assistant principal at Panas before moving to Dobbs Ferry School District as high school principal. Yi also served as head of a South Korean school. Cortlandt Manor's Tori Jarosz Helps Marist Women Rout Manhattan CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – Senior center Tori Jarosz of Cortlandt Manor recorded her second double-double in as many games Monday as the Marist College women’s basketball team routed Manhattan College, 67-45. Marist is 9-6 overall and 5-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Jarosz finished the game with 17 points on 8-12 shooting from the field, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Danbury's Smith Earns Rookie Of The Week Honors Again At Fairfield U. FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Danbury's Casey Smith, a redshirt sophomore at Fairfield University, won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week and the third time this season. Staples' DeBalsi Wins Gatorade Cross Country Honor WESTPORT, Conn. -- Staples High School junior Hannah DeBalsi was named Friday as the Gatorade Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year for Connecticut for the second year in a row. DeBalsi finished fifth at the national Foot Locker Cross Country championships in December. She won the State Open championship with a time of 17:59 and captured the Class LL state title in 18:14. Pleasantville Firefighters Plan Monday Vigil For Fallen Comrade MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. -- A candlelight vigil to commemorate the 19th anniversary of a slain Pleasantville firefighter will be held on Monday at 7:15 p.m. at Grahams Hill Park. Thomas Dorr, 50 and a volunteer with the Pleasantville Fire Department, was feeding wild turkeys in the park during a blizzard on Jan. 7, 1996 with his wife, Jane Sawyer Dorr, and stepson, Jeffrey Door. His wife and stepson returned home, and Dorr remained in the park. Dorr's body was found on Jan. 8 in two feet of snow not far from his home. Danbury Teen Charged In Ponzi Scheme: 'It Feels Right In My Heart' DANBURY, Conn. -- The teenage owner of a popular Danbury nightclub charged with running a $500,000 Ponzi scheme said in an interview with NBCConnecticut.com that “it feels right in my heart that this is what I should be doing.” Ian Bick, 19, of Danbury, was charged Friday with federal fraud, money laundering and false statement offenses stemming from allegations that he ran a Ponzi scheme. Three Rye Neck Football Players Earn Spots On All-State Teams RYE NECK, N.Y. -- Three Rye Neck High School football players were recently named Class C All-State players by the New York State Sportswriters Association. Senior running back Dom Brescia was named to the Class C first team. Jake Sevean, a senior, was named to the second team defense, and Chris Richart was named to the third team defense. Rye Neck finished 6-2. Brescia rushed for 1,678 yards and 16 touchdowns for the Panthers. Sevean was a two-way standout, scored nine touchdowns and rushed for 493 yards.
