John Jay Business Students Learn Law At 'The People's Court' LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- John Jay High School business law students witnessed the legal process in a recent trip to Stamford. Teacher Michael Cohen traveled with the students to a recent taping of "The People's Court,'' which is taped in Stamford. Teen Owner Of Popular Danbury Nightclub Is Charged In $500K Ponzi Scheme DANBURY, Conn. -- Legal troubles mounted Friday for Danbury teenager Ian Bick, the owner of a popular local nightclub. Bick, 19, owner of Tuxedo Junction on Ives Street, was charged with fraud, money laundering and false statement offenses stemming from allegations that he ran a Ponzi scheme. The indictment was returned Thursday, and Bick was arrested at his home Friday morning. Earlier in the day, it was reported Bick was arrested by U.S. Postal Service agents at his home on mail fraud, wire fraud and other charges. Yonkers Native Stars For Iowa State Men's Basketball Team YONKERS, N.Y. -- Dustin Hogue, a senior from Yonkers, has helped Iowa State’s men’s basketball team climb to No. 17 in the national rankings. Hogue, a Lincoln High School graduate, has started all 13 games for the Cyclones (11-2), who play No. 15 West Virginia on Saturday in Morgantown. Hogue enters that game averaging 11.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Hogue had a huge game in a 63-61 win over Oklahoma State on Tuesday. He scored 17 points, including the final seven points of the game. He also had a huge block with less than a second left to help the Cyclones hold off the Cowboys. …

Company That Runs Friendly's Restaurants Files For Bankruptcy WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Friendly's Ice Cream lovers are apparently down to their last licks after the company that runs the regional franchises filed for bankruptcy, according to a story on LoHud.com. Friendly's shut restaurants in Yonkers, Yorktown and Mount Kisco in September, along with some in Rockland County. The Friendly's location in Carmel was the only remaining one in the region. Man Gets 10 Months In Prison For Embezzling $108K From Westport Employer WESTPORT, Conn. -- A Milford man was sentenced to 10 months in federal prison Wednesday for embezzling more than $100,000 from Consolidated Management Group of Westport. David Liptak, 50, will also serve three years of supervised release after the sentencing by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer. Liptak also was ordered to pay full restitution of $108,000 and a fine of $3,000. Shea Steps Down As Fairfield Prep Football Coach FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Tom Shea has resigned as the coach of the Fairfield Prep High School football team and will be replaced by current assistant coach Keith Hellstern. Shea, a 1973 alumnus of the school, posted a 32-23 record in his five years at the helm. Shea finished his career with three straight winning seasons and a Class LL championship game appearance in 2013. Accidents On Merritt Parkway In Stamford, Greenwich Slow Morning Commute FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Snow and slippery travel conditions greeted Fairfield County commuters for Friday's morning rush hour. An accident on the Southbound Merritt Parkway at North Street in Greenwich occurred at 7:46 a.m. An accident occurred near the same time on the Southbound Merritt at Exit 35 in Stamford. Traffic was slow moving in both directions on Interstate 95 as well, although there were no accidents as of 8 a.m. Snow was expected to taper off by mid-morning. Travel conditions are not expected to be hazardous for the evening commute.
