New Program At Saugatuck Rowing Club In Westport Helps Kids Get Fit WESTPORT, Conn. -- Saugatuck Rowing Club is gearing up to take on childrens’ fitness in the new year. Beginning in January, the club will offer an 8-week, hour-long Fit Kids program to introduce children ages 12-14 to methods and benefits of fitness. Danbury Firefighers Tackle Late Night Blaze; 1 Hurt DANBURY, Conn. -- Danbury firefighters fought a blaze Sunday at 10 p.m. Sunday at a residence at 7 Oak Ridge Ave. Arriving firefighters found the attached garage filled with smoke and quickly extinguished the blaze. No firefighters were injured, according to a statement from Steven Rogers Jr., communications coordinator and public information officer with the Danbury Fire Department. One person was taken to the hospital with burns to their hands and minor smoke inhalation, he said. Violet Tedlie Doherty, 81, Of New Canaan; Airline Stewardess NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Violet Tedlie Doherty of New Canaan died at Norwalk Hospital on Tuesday, Jan 6. She was 81. Born in Montreal on June 27, 1933, she was the daughter of John Cecil Tedlie and Georgina Johnston Tedlie. After graduating from high school graduation, she worked for the Bell Telephone Co. of Canada until she was accepted into the American Airlines Flight Academy. She graduated in 1955 and fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a stewardess. Yorktown Education Foundation Plans Wine-Tasting Event YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Foundation for Excellence in Yorktown Education will host its sixth annual wine-tasting on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
