Jammed Roads Greet Commuters Friday In Fairfield County FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield County drivers looking to return home during Friday's afternoon rush hour found heavy traffic in both directions of Interstate 95 and the Merritt Parkway. An accident on the southbound side of the Merritt Parkway in New Canaan helped congest the roadway. The accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. and was cleared by 5 p.m. Traffic, however, was still heavy in both directions. Interstate 95 northbound was clogged from Greenwich through Bridgeport. An afternoon fire in Bridgeport provided an early start to the commuting hassle.
