Petition Supporting Fired Greeley Basketball Coach Nears 500 Signatures CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- An online petition to reinstate Dave Fernandes as the head coach of the Horace Greeley High School varsity boys basketball team in Chappaqua has reached nearly 500 signatures. In a meeting with with athletic director Pete Kuczma, Fernandes, a Dutchess resident, was told the school wanted to go in a “different direction.” Fernandes, the head custodian at the school, has coached the team since 1994 and started as a freshman coach in 1988. Greenwich Teens Make Life-Changing Trip To Reservation In South Dakota GREENWICH, Conn. -- Six teenagers from Greenwich stepped outside their comfort zone this summer for a week to help change the lives of residents of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation in South Dakota. Norwalk TL Elite Softball Team Plans Tryouts For '17 Season NORWALK, Conn. -- Tryouts for the Norwalk TL Elite 2017 softball teams will be held at Norwalk High School. Tryouts for the 12-and-under and 14-and-under teams will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Aug. 20, and Sunday, Aug. 27. Players should arrive 30 minutes before the tryout. The teams begin weekly conditioning and practices in September and continue throughout the Fall. Practices will increase after the holidays and winter clinics will begin. As a long-time town resident, the emotional damage from those fires still hurt the 82-year-old firefighter. Olympics End for Mohegan Lake's Gonzalez, U.S. Field Hockey WESTCHESTER COUNTY, Conn. -- The United States field hockey team saw its Olympic run come to an end Monday with a 2-1 loss to Germany in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Rio de Janeiro. Germany took a 2-0 lead in the first half. Katie Reinprecht and Katelyn Falgowski combined to work for a goal for the U.S., with the ball getting deflected into the cage off the stick of a German player.
