Yonkers Partners in Education Launches New After-School Center
YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers Partners in Education recently launched the new state-of-the-art after-school center YPIE College Zone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Our mission at YPIE is more than just getting students to college. It is about igniting passions, instilling confidence, and providing inspiration and motivation for success in college and in life,” said Sam Wallis, YPIE’s program director. Peekskill's Field Library Throws 'Star Wars' Party
PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The Field Library in Peekskill will sponsor "Star Wars: The Party Awakens" on Saturday, May 14. Children of all ages and their parents are invited to enjoy Jedi party games, "Star Wars" crafts and refreshments. Participants are invited to dress in their favorite "Star Wars" costume. KENT LAKES, N.Y. -- Kent Public Library will host a Body Oil Workshop on Monday evening. Workshop leader Nikki Rodriguez will show how to make a natural blend of body oil as a gift for Mother's Day or oneself. KENT LAKES, N.Y. -- The Brewster Theater Company's Armchair Actors will visit Kent Public Library on Saturday, May 14. PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. -- Pleasant Valley Cub Scout Pack 33 recently visited with Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro for a government leader discussion while working toward their next badge. The Scouts learned about county, state and federal government during their visit to the County Office Building. They discussed the history of Dutchess County government, solar panels, recycling and more.

Ramapo Police Respond To Reported Electrical Fire
RAMAPO, N.Y. -- The Ramapo Police Department responded to a report of an electrical fire on the night of Saturday, April 30. The fire was along the power lines at South Mountain Road and Route 45 in the northeast section of town. Orange and Rockland Utilities responded and shut down the power supply to the area, which covered parts of Ramapo, Haverstraw, Pomona and New Hempstead. The Hillcrest Volunteer Fire Dept. extinguished the burning wires, while Ramapo police manned traffic post at key intersections until power was restored. Most electrical services were restored as of 1 a.m.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Ace came into Hi Tor Animal Care Shelter as a stray and is seeking a permanent home. The 2-year-old male boxer and terrier mix reportedly gets along with other dogs and has a calm, shy disposition. Ace warms up once he gets to know someone, and would do well with older kids who can give him the time to open to someone. Ace has not been tested with cats yet. He knows some basic obedience. Ted Cruz by 15 points among likely Republican primary voters in Indiana, according to a new Marist College Poll. Hutchinson River Parkway Lane Closures Announced For This Week
WESTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Lane closures for a stretch of the Hutchinson River Parkway has been announced for this week. The closure, for maintenance, will involved one lane between Exit 23 (Mamaroneck Ave.) and Exit 10 (East Third St.) from Monday, May 2 through Thursday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting. Drivers should use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay attention to all traffic control devices. Speeding fines are doubled when traveling through a work zone.

Hudson Chorale Performs Elijah In Irvington
IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Hudson Chorale will conclude its sixth season with a performance of Felix Mendelssohn's "Elijah" at Irvington Middle/High School on Saturday, May 14.
