Putnam DA, Sheriff Issue New Scam Phone Call Warning
PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Putnam County District Attorney Robert Tendy and Sheriff Donald B. Smith have issued a warning about scam IRS calls targeting senior citizens. Several Putnam County residents have recently reported receiving fraudulent calls from scam artists claiming to be IRS officials and demanding payments for taxes. The scammers often threaten the victim with a loss of driver's license, business license, deportation or jail time. SPCA Of Westchester In Briarcliff Helps Saves Dogs From Illegal Meat Trade
WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- SPCA of Westchester has partnered with the Soi Dog Foundation to save victims from the illegal meat trade. The Soi Dog Foundation works to rescue dogs that have been captured in Thailand. Victims of the dog meat trade are often grabbed from the streets or abducted from families, then crammed into wire cages and transported to be butchered for their meat. Honey Blue, Carmel and Indy are three such dogs scheduled to arrive at the SPCA on Tuesday, May 3. Croton-Harmon Students Share Poems In Their Pockets
CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- The students of Carrie E. Tompkins created personalized pockets to carry hand-selected poems in celebration of Poem in Your Pocket Day on Wednesday, April 20. Students in Joann Chousa's third grade class shared poems they authored, as well as ones from poetry books with their peers throughout the day. Poem in Your Pocket Day takes place during National Poetry Month, which celebrates literature in schools, libraries, bookstores and beyond.

Croton Libary Launches Community Supported Agriculture Program
CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- The Croton Free Library will host Lineage Farm Community Supported Agriculture on Thursdays from June to October. Lineage Farm CSA will provide freshly harvested vegetables straight from the farm from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays for 20 weeks. Members choose their vegetables from a selection of that week's harvest. Share sizes range from $310 for 5 vegetables a week to $422 for 7 a week or $515 for 10 a week. SNAP benefits are accepted.
