Irvington Middle School Students Serve Families In Need IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- National Junior Honor Society members at Irvington Middle School recently served meals to families in need at the Loaves and Fish Soup Kitchen. The students began on Saturday, April 30, by setting tables and preparing take-home bags of foods. They then cooked a chicken meal from scratch for more than 50 guests. “They made pleasant conversation and treated everyone with the utmost respect,” said health teacher Luann Ricciardi. “Scrubbing pots and mopping the floor at the end of the night were all part of the experience. Nyack Museum Exhibit Focuses Businesses Before Malls NYACK, N.Y. -- The Historical Society of the Nyacks Museum will host the exhibit "Nyack Business: Long Before the Malls" on Sunday. The museum is in the lower level of the historic DePew House at 50 Piermont Ave.  It is open on Sundays through May 29 from 1-4 p.m. The exhibit will close at the end of the month.

Ossining Renames Tennis Courts After Longtime Resident Shannon Ross OSSINING, N.Y. -- The village of Ossining and the Ossining Recreation and Parks Department planned to name Nelson Park's tennis court in honor of the late Shannon Ross on Friday.  Ross championed tennis as an Ossining resident and helped develop youth tennis programs through the school district and recreation department. She also promoted adult tennis programs, USTA team competitions and the installation of lights at the Nelson Park courts. Kent Library Exhbits Art By Amanda Lynne KENT LAKES, N.Y. -- Kent Public Library will exhibit the paintings of Amanda Lynne throughout the month of May.  Lynne's paintings celebrate the natural world's beauty, with a focus on plants and animals.  All her works are created on upcycled discarded wooden furniture such as cabinet doors, drawer fronts and table tops.

Easton Police Euthanize Aggressive Shelter Dog EASTON, Conn. -- A pit bull/Shar-Pei mix at a shelter in Eastonwas euthanized after police determined it was too aggressive, according to the Easton Courier.  The dog arrived at the Easton Animal Shelter in December, but several months of evaluation determined it was a danger to people and other animals, police told the Easton Courier.  It was euthanized on Tuesday, April 26.  Click here to read the Easton Courier story.

Darien Officer Organizes Book Drive For Bridgeport School DARIEN, Conn. -- Darien Police Officer Louis Moura assisted Holmes Elementary School in conducting a book drive for Bridgeport's Cesar Batalla School. Moura was formerly a Bridgeport police officer and is currently school liaison officer to Holmes Elementary.  He coordinated the book drive with Holmes librarian and student council adviser Dyan Gonzales.  The books will be delivered to Cesar Batalla School on Friday, May 6.

Poughkeepsie Schools' Assistant Superintendent Of Finance Resigns POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Poughkeepsie City School District board accepted the resignation of Assistant Superintendent of Finance Wayne Kurlander on Wednesday, May 4, according to Poughkeepsie Journal.  Kurlander was hired in July 2015 to replace former interim Assistant Finance Superintendent Stanley Bronski, who resigned after Bronski was alleged to have propositioned a prostitute, Poughkeepsie Journal reported. Nyack's Hopper House Hosts Lynn Stein Reception, Viviane Silvera Film NYACK, N.Y. -- The Edward Hopper House will host a reception for artist Lynn Stein and screen the Viviane Silvera film "See Memory." Stein is the Hopper House's artist of the month. The reception will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 6. Silvera's film comes from the painting of her series "Film Project: Therapy," which was exhibited in 2014.  The 17-minute stop-motion film explores the tie between memories and both identity and imagination with 15,000 painting stills.  The screening begins at 7 p.m.
