Westchester SPCA Picks Maggie As Pet Of The Week
BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- A four-year-old petite pitbull mix named Maggie is the SPCA of Westchester's Pet of the Week. Maggie is described as "a total mush" that "loves people and kids." Her past times include sunbathing, getting massages, romping around the yard and playing with toys. She can be calm and content, knows her commands and walks well on her leash, according to the shelter. Maggie would like to be a family's only dog. Papa John's Salad and Produce Inc. is recalling its Oriental Salad with Sesame Ginger Dressing due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The products in the voluntary recall contain sunflower kernels that are part of SunOpta's recent expanded recall. McEnroe Farm Celebrates Opening Of Season
MILLERTON, N.Y. -- McEnroe Farm will kick off the summer season with a grand opening celebration on Saturday, May 21. The grand opening will showcase the newly renovated market with a barbecue, tastings from Chatham Brewing and other guest vendors, family activities and live music. State Names Clarkstown South High School A Reward School
CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- New York State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia recently identified Clarkstown High School South as a Reward School. Two hundred and twenty schools were identified as Reward Schools for being among the top 20 percent in English language arts and math performance in the last two academic years, or among the top 10 percent of schools for gains during the 2014-15 academic year. CIA Students Make Lunches For Soup Kitchen
HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- The Culinary Institute of America's senior resident assistants recently organized almost 100 students to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a Manhattan soup kitchen. The students and resident assistants made and wrapped more than 3,000 sandwiches in less than an hour on assembly-line tables in The Egg student dining venue. The sandwiches were delivered the following morning to The Bowery Mission. J.M. Smucker Company donated Jif peanut butter and Smucker's jelly and Bimbo Bakeries USA donated Sara Lee bread for the cause.

IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Irvington High School’s Academic Challenge team placed 65th overall out of 160 teams recently at the 2016 National History Bowl Varsity National Championship. Senior Connor Winton, juniors Max Kerner and Jordan Schwed and freshman Rishikesh Madabhushi competed in rounds of buzzer-based history questions and ended the day with a 6-4 record.
