Kenneth L. Waters, 99, World War II Vet From New Canaan NEW CANAAN, Conn. — Kenneth L. Waters of New Canaan, a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army, died on Jan. 8 at his home following a brief illness. He was 99. Born July 22, 1917 in Pound Ridge, NY, the son of Hobart and Eleanor Waters, he moved that same year to New Canaan and and graduated from New Canaan High in 1935,. He attended Short’s Business School in Stamford and in 1939 he was appointed as a member of the New Canaan Board of Assessors. Fairfield First Selectman Proclaims Law Enforcement Appreciation Day FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- First Selectman Mike Tetreau proclaimed Monday as National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in the Town of Fairfield. National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is celebrated every Jan. 9 across the country. Law enforcement in Fairfield was first organized in the year 1661 with the appointment of the first Town Marshall. The Police Department was created by Town Ordinance in 1930 with seven officers named to the force. The department has grown to employ 108 sworn officers, 70 special agents, 15 telecommunicators, four animal control officers and seven marina guards. The …

Westport Police: Lock Your Cars After Rash Of Thefts WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport Police urged residents to be more vigilant about locking car doors after nine vehicle thefts in the past two months. In each instance, the cars were unlocked and keys were left in the car. "We have also experienced numerous vehicle break-ins during the month of December,'' a police statement said. "In all cases of vehicles being entered, which resulted in thefts, the doors were unlocked. The recent thefts have occurred overnight." Weston's World War II Exhibit Features Film, West Point Lecturers WESTON, Conn. -- The Weston Historical Society continues its film and lectures as part of their current exhibit: Memories of World War II – Celebrating Weston’s Contributions to World War II. The film, "The Battle of Great Britain," will be shown on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Weston Public Library, 56 Norfield Road. Sunday Evening Accident Closes Merritt Lane In Greenwich GREENWICH, Conn. -- One lane closed on the northbound side of the Merritt Parkway Sunday night in Greenwich after a car crashed through the center median. No further information on the crash was reported by the Greenwich Fire Department, which responded to the accident. Snow and ice made driving conditions hazardous on Sunday night as a result of a storm on Saturday.

Shelton's Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. Responds To Head-On Crash SHELTON, Conn. -- Shelton's Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Company responded early Sunday afternoon to a head-on collision between two vehicles on Route 110 near Murphy’s Lane, according to a Facebook post. The crew of Engine 42 removed the driver’s door to one of the vehicles. Two people were taken to the hospital. Companies 1 and 4 also arrived at the scene after being dispatched at abut 12:15 p.m. Shelton EMS units also responded.

Wells Fargo Awards $5,000 Community Grant To New Canaan Library NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan Library has been awarded a $5,000 Community Connections grant by Wells Fargo.
