Stamford Girls Help Chelsea Piers Soccer Team Win Massachusetts Tournament STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Connecticut Football Club (CFC) Chelsea Piers Girls under-13 girls soccer team won the Needham Memorial Day Tournament in Needham, Mass., over Memorial Day weekend. Girls from Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, Greenwich and New Canaan play for the Chelsea Piers team. The team put on an impressive performance during the tournament, including allowing just one goal throughout the entire 300 minutes of play. Student From New Rochelle's Thronton-Donovan School Headed To Japan NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- First-year Thornton-Donovan School junior Trent Shillingford has been selected to participate in the Japan Youth Exchange Program run by Youth For Understanding (YFU). Norwalk Babe Ruth Baseball Teams Advance In Tournament NORWALK, Conn. – Four Norwalk Babe Ruth teams advanced in an Xtreme Baseball Tournament last weekend, with two teams taking home pool play honors. The Norwalk 13X went 3-1 in pool play, while the 15X team went 4-0. The 14x 8th grade team and Norwalk 14x high school team finished second. The high school team's only loss was a 1-0 decision to Arlington, Mass. All four teams advance to the championship rounds beginning Saturday in Wappinger Falls, N.Y. Blind Greenwich Triathlete Races For U.S. In Pan American Championships GREENWICH, Conn. – Just 18 months ago, Amy Dixon was fighting weight gain, diminishing vision and minimal motivation to get fit. On Sunday, the Greenwich woman will represent the United States in the Pan American Triathlon Confederation championships in Dallas. The Dallas race is just the beginning of a busy summer for Dixon, 38, who raced her first triathlon last June. Young Darien Runners Training For Charity 5K In Stamford DARIEN, Conn. -- Students of Darien’s Let Me Run and Girls on the Run after-school programs are training for Sunday's Hope in Motion 5K, a charity event benefiting Stamford Hospital’s Bennett Cancer Center. The 5K and 10K runs will take place Sunday, June 1, at 8 a.m. in downtown Stamford’s Columbus Park. Nearly 100 young runners from Hindley, Holmes, Royle, Pear Tree Point and Tokeneke Schools will compete in the 5K or 3.1-mile race. Each one is running with at least one parent or guardian.
