Westchester Soccer Star Named Atlantic 10 Soccer Player Of The Week SOMERS, N.Y. -- George Mason soccer player Taylor Washington, a junior from Somers, was recently named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. Washington assisted on the game-tying goal for the Patriots in a 1-1 tie with Dayton. He scored the game-winner in a 3-2 victory over No. 13 St. Louis. It was the first goal of the season for Washington, who plays defense. George Mason is 8-2-3 entering a game Friday, Oct. 17, at Dayton and is ranked No. 22 by Soccer News and No. 17 by Soccer by Ives. Washington transferred from Boston University and started all 21 games last season for the Patriots.…

Westchester County Football Teams Climb In MaxPreps Rankings NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Iona Prep zoomed up 14 places in the latest rankings by MaxPreps with an impressive win Sunday over St. Anthony’s of Melville, N.Y. The Gaels (4-2) are now ranked 11th in the state by MaxPreps. The only Westchester County school ahead of Prep in the rankings is No. 2 Archbishop Stepinac ( 6-0), which beat the Gaels, 35-19, on Oct. 4. Prep beat St. Anthony's, 40-30, as quarterback Robert Madison completed 32-of-45 passes for 400 yards and five touchdowns. Helen Frye White Eckel, 99, New Canaan Resident NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Helen Frye White Eckel died on Oct. 5 at her home in New Canaan. She was 99. Born Feb. 5 in Medford, Mass. to William Frye and Charlotte Wilson White, Eckel was the youngest of three girls.
