Young Wrestler With Ossining Ties Named Finalist For National Honor OSSINING, N.Y. -- A young wrestler from upstate New York with ties to Ossining was named a finalist in the voting for the Sports Illustrated SportsKid of the Year. Myles Griffin, 11, has won three New York state championships and six championships in national tournaments. He lives in Onondaga and is the grandson of Jim and Patti Griffin, long-time Ossining residents who now live in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. MaxPreps Names Darien Volleyball Star To Underclassmen All-American Team DARIEN, Conn. -- Darien High School volleyball star Isabelle Taylor was named to the MaxPreps’ Underclassmen All-American team. Taylor was one of 20 girls named to the team. Taylor, the Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year, led Darien to a 25-2 record and the Class LL state championship. The Warriors (4-0) closed out December by winning the Wilton Holiday Classic. The Warriors routed Staples, 83-66, in the title game. Wilton has won its four games by an average of nearly 29 points. Joseph A. Ambrosecchio, 85, Of Armonk; Worked at St. Barnabas Hospital ARMONK, N.Y. -- Joseph A. Ambrosecchio, a longtime resident of Armonk, died Monday, Dec. 29. He was 85. Ambrosecchio was born on Feb.  4, 1929, in New York City to the late Antonio and Serafina (Iacovone) Ambrosecchio. He served in the Army during the Korean War and worked at St. Barnabas Hospital for over 20 years. He is survived by his sister, Teresa Moffa; brothers, Emanuel, Gus, Michael and Maro; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Ambrosecchio. Haldane Volleyball Star Named MaxPreps' All-American COLD SPRING, N.Y. -- Haldane High School volleyball player Kelly Vahos was named to the MaxPreps’ Small School All-American volleyball team. Vahos, a senior who will attend James Madison, was one of 16 girls named to the MaxPreps’ team. Vahos had 499 kills in 82 sets played. She also had 67 aces and a 91.3 serving percentage. Vahos led Haldane to a 22-4 record and a fourth straight state tournament appearance. Haldane’s season ended with a 3-2 loss to Portville in the Class D championship game.
