Born and raised in Yonkers to the late Frank and Ida Kar, he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1937. He was an accomplished violinist and played for the Yonkers Symphony Orchestra as a young man. He worked for the Caltex Petroleum Corp. for 45 years and retired to Cape Cod in 1985. Five John Jay HS Athletes Announce Plans To Play In College LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- Five seniors at John Jay High School recently committed to continue their athletic careers at Division 1 colleges. Amanda Flayhan will play lacrosse at the University of Michigan; Ryan Lee will play lacrosse at the University of Richmond; Jillian Schell will play lacrosse at San Diego State University; Theresa Swertfager will play softball at the University of Florida; and Jack Weiller, a baseball player, will play at the University of Virginia. Weiller, a shortstop, is ranked as New York's fifth best player entering the 2015 season by Baseball Player Report.

Murray is the first winner of the award. Winners were selected based on team scores and placements at league, state and regional championships, and how the teams compared with performances in past seasons. Smith scored 21 points in a loss to Niagara on Sunday and 24 points in a loss to LaSalle on Dec. 28. Rosemarie Landicino, 71, Yorktown Resident YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Rosemarie Landicino of Yorktown Heights, formerly of Brooklyn, died on Jan. 1, 2015. She was 71. Landicino was born on March 12, 1943, in New York to Marie Mele and Alexander Passannante. She is survived by her son, Carl, daughter-in-law Lucia, and her grandchildren, Gabriella, Joseph, and Marco. She is also survived by her brother Alex Passannante. Family and friends will honor her life at Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights on Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, Jan.  7, at 10 a.m. at St Patrick's Stone Church in Yorktown Heights.
