Bridgeport Felon Gets 5 Years in Prison for Possession Of Stolen Gun BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A Bridgeport man was sentenced to 62 months in prison Friday for being a felon in possession of a firearm, and for violating his supervised release from a previous federal conviction. Rahshim Carter, 26, also known as “Jinks” and “Mace,” was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford. Middle School Squash Team At Greenwich's Sacred Heart Wins National Title GREENWICH, Conn. -- Convent of the Sacred Heart's middle school squash team won the 2015 U.S. Middle School national championship last month at Yale University. The team won their first of four matches against St. Luke’s School of New Canaan, 4-1, followed by a 4-1 win against Shipley of Philadephia. In the semifinals, the team edged East Rock of Connecticut, 3-2. In a close final match against New Canaan Country School, Convent of the Sacred Heart earned a 3-2 decision. Westport Snowboarder Prepares For Busy Month On The Slopes WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport snowboarder Julia Marino spent much of the past two months in search of snow. She found it hard to come by in Canada and Utah. Now, the 17-year-old member of the U.S. Snowboarding Slopestyle rookie team heads into the heart of her season. Marino will compete in the U.S. Sprint Grand Prix at Mammoth Mountain in California next week. She will also compete in Park City, Utah, beginning Feb. 23. Louise Miklavzina, 86, Longtime Bridgeport Resident BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Louise Miklavzina, 86, died Friday, Jan. 30, in New Britain. For most of her life she resided in Bridgeport, where she was very active in the Slovenian community. She is survived by her children, John and his wife, Donna Miklavzina, of Wolcott, Elizabeth Kusterle of Woodland Park, Colo., and Irene Jeruss of Bristol; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
