Norwalk's Slammer Tennis World Hosts Usta Tournaments NORWALK, Conn. -- Slammer Tennis World in Norwalk recently held two United States Tennis Association tournaments at Norwalk High School. Players competed in the 18-and-under, 16-and-under, 14-and-under and 12-and-under in the tournaments. Children from throughout the state competed in the tournament. Slammer Tennis World, in collaboration with the Norwalk Recreation and Parks, hosted four USTA events this summer. Runners Head To Brewster Sunday For Putnam County Fall Classic BREWSTER, N.Y. -- The 22nd annual Putnam County Fall Classic, a half marathon and 5k road race, begins on 9 a.m. on Sunday in Brewster. The race is hosted by the Hudson Valley Cerebral Palsey Association. Proceeds from the race will be used to develop the Opportunity League Park in Southeast. The race is run in conjunction with Brewster Founder’s Day, which includes a street fair from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The race begins at 50 Main St. in Brewster. Runners Head To Norwalk For Sam Elpern Half-Marathon NORWALK, Conn. -- The 38th annual Sam Elpern half marathon in Norwalk kicks off the fall running season in Fairfield County on Saturday. The race begins at 8 a.m. at Fox Run Elementary School and is put on by the Lightfoot Running Club. Don Capone of Norwalk is the race director. The two-loop 13.1-mile course begins and ends at Fox Run. Sections of the race take runners along Richards Avenue, West Norwalk Road, Weed Avenue, Nursery Street, Ponus Avenue and Fox Run Road. Stamford Board Of Realtors Donates Backpacks To 2 Elementary Schools STAMFORD, Conn. -- For the ninth consecutive year, the Stamford Board of Realtors donated backpacks to two elementary schools in Stamford. Backpacks each were presented to Principal, Lisa Saba-Price, Newfield Elementary School and Principal Lisa Saba Price, and to Toquam Magnet Elementary School and Assistant Principal, Angela Asaro, Toquam. The schools were designated by Xiomara Barrero, Office of Family Management, as having the greatest need.  The Backpack Project was made possible through Realtor member donations, and miscellaneous funds collected by the SBOR over the past year.
