One Westchester Squad Makes State's 'Fab 5' Rankings In Football Archbishop Stepinac’s football team placed second in a MaxPreps’ story on New York’s “Fab 5”. The Crusaders were behind Canisius. Jamestown, Maine-Endwell and John Jay of Hopewell Junction in Dutchess County were also featured in the article. The Crusaders, who finished 12-1 last year, kick off the season on Friday, Sept. 11, at Newburgh Free Academy. The Crusaders have 10 returning starters, five on each side of the ball, and will be led by Tyquell Fields, T.J. Morrison and Dan Negron. John Jay is the lone Section 1 team in the top five. Norwalk River Valley Trail Opens New Section In Wilton WILTON, Conn. -- The Norwalk River Valley Trail announced that its newest section of trail in Wilton is now open to the public. The section, part of the east-side “Wilton Loop”, runs one half mile north from Sharp Hill Road to near Twin Oak Lane. The section begins as a level, mostly shaded path through mixed woodland and crumbling stone walls. There is a dirt side-trail leading to Parish Road, and a rough rock bench put together by trail builders. Paramus, River Dell Clash In Football Opener PARAMUS, N.J. -- Two of the most successful teams in northern New Jersey in recent years kick off the season against each other on Friday, Sept. 4, when River Dell of Oradell visits Paramus. Kick off is at 7 p.m. Paramus is coming of a 10-2 season, the winningest season in coach Dan Sabella's nine-year tenure. Mt. Kisco Fire Department Invites Residents To 9/11 Ceremony MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- The Mt. Kisco Volunteer Fire Department invites residents to join them for a memorial service on Sept. 11. The service will start at 6:15 p.m. at 100 Main St.. Following a brief ceremony people are invited to the Mutual Firehouse across the street for some light refreshments. Fair Lawn Kicks Off Football Season Against Dickinson JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Two teams looking for turnaround seasons aim to get started on a winning note when Fair Lawn travels to meet Dickinson in the high school football opener for both teams on Friday, Sept. 4. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. Fair Lawn finished 2-8 last year, while Dickinson was also 2-8. The Cutters have not had a winning season since 2009. Neighbors Rally For Weston Man Badly Hurt In Fall Down Home Stairs WESTON, Conn. -- A fundraising drive has been established to help the family of a Weston man who suffered a traumatic brain injury after falling down a flight of stairs in June. Stephen Gurman spent 20 days in the intensive care at Norwalk Hospital after the fall on June 27. He is now undergoing rehabilitation at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains, N.Y.
