Teaching Spawned Political Career For Harrington Park's Long-Time Mayor HARRINGTON PARK, N.J. -- A couple of apples did not fall far from Paul Hoelscher’s teaching tree. Even Harrington Park’s long-time mayor found himself seeking elective office, influenced in part by a 33-year teaching career of in political science. Sports Persons Of The Year Named For Fairfield County FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The Fairfield County Sports Commission today announced its 2016 Sports Persons of the Year in each of the 16 communities the Commission directly serves. Sports World Mourns Death Of ESPN Anchor John Saunders Of Westchester HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- ESPN broadcaster John Saunders, a resident of Hastings-on-Hudson, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, according to multiple reports. He was 61. The Santa Monica Observer reported Saunders died of congestive heart failure. His colleague, Hannah Storm, tearfully reported the news to SportsCenter viewers on Wednesday morning. Saunders joined ESPN in 1986 and had a range of assignments. Champions Gala Raises $95K For Bridgeport's Child & Family Guidance Center BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Child & Family Guidance Center’s first "Champions for Children" fundraising gala at Shorehaven Golf Club in Norwalk raised nearly $95,000. Stamford High Class Of '56 Presents Scholarship STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Stamford High School Class of 1956 recently presented a scholarship to Erin Maher. The scholarship focused on an outstanding student in the field of creative arts. Maher demonstrated gifted theatrical talent, performing in stage productions throughout her four years at Stamford High School. She also maintained an excellent academic status, as well as membership in community volunteer organizations, such as Friendly Faces, working with special needs students. Former Brewster Standout Takes Reins To Rebuild Binghamton Lacrosse BREWSTER, N.Y. -- Kevin McKeown headed to Binghamton University in 2002 out of Brewster High School to help establish the college’s lacrosse program. Now, he’s heading there again to do the same thing, albeit in a much different capacity. McKeown was named head coach of the Bearcats in late July.
