Family Starts Fundraiser To Support Sherman Man Hurt In Motorcycle Crash SHERMAN, Conn. — A Go Fund Me page has been established to help cover medical expenses for a Sherman man who suffered a leg injury after a motorcycle crash earlier this month. David Coons of Sherman was involved in a head-on collision with a motor vehicle while riding his motorcycle on Route 39 in Sherman on Jan. 21. Doctors worked furiously to save the man's leg, but surgeons decided Coons would need to have his foot amputated. Westport Native Nominated For 2 Oscars For 'La La Land' WESTPORT, Conn. — Staples High grad Justin Paul who grew up in Westport grabbed two Oscar nominations Tuesday for his songs in the film "La La Land." "La La Land" received 14 nominations, tying the record. Paul received nominations for Best Song from the film for "Audition (The Fools Who Dream)" and "City of Stars." Fire Official: Alert Neighbor Saved Lives In Danbury Condo Blaze DANBURY, Conn. -- The Danbury Fire Department credited an alert neighbor with saving the lives of others by calling 911 Monday night about a fire at the Birchwood Condominiums. A person reported the blaze to the fire department around 10:30 p.m. The fire department said it was reported by a resident who could not wake the occupants of another home at the condo. Metro-North Railroads Break Ridership Records FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The New Haven Line of Metro North, which whisks many Fairfield County residents to work each day, remains the busiest commuter rail line in the nation as the railroad announced Monday it has set records for ridership. Stratford Police: Burglar Left Keys, Cellphone At Scene STRATFORD, Conn. -- A Stratford man was arrested after he left his keys and cell phone following his break in at a animal hospital, according to the Connecticut Post.Nicholas Bruner, 31, was charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief. Police found a broken window after responding to an alarm at The Pet Hospital on Linden Avenue. They discovered a trail of blood along with keys and the cell phone, which they traced to Bruner.
