Former Longtime Lodi Teacher Edith "Sugar" Ann Bigica Dies At 83
LODI, N.J. -- Edith "Sugar" Ann Bigica, of Lodi, died on Monday, Oct. 10. She was 83.
Born in Hackensack, Bigica received her bachelor's degree from Paterson State College. Before she retired, she was a teacher at Columbus School in Lodi for more than 20 years. She was also a member of the Lodi, New Jersey and National Education Associations.
Bigica is survived by her husband, Nunzio Bigica; children Stephen Bigica and his wife Therese, and Gary Bigica and Kim Caruso; siblings Edward and Monique Sproviero, Linda Sproviero, and Angelina "Honey" Sproviero; grandchildren …
Clifford Hasslinger, 87, Longtime Paramus Resident
PARAMUS, N.J. -- Clifford Hasslinger, of Paramus, died on Monday, Oct. 10. He was 87.
Hasslinger was born and raised in Ridgefield Park, where he became a member of the Ridgefield Park Volunteer Fire Department, Hose No. 1. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he married, and they moved to Paramus, where they raised their three children.
Before he retired in 1987, Hasslinger was a partner and owner of Dooley Electric, in New York. Since then, he enjoyed his summers at the beach in Ocean Grove, rooting for Rutgers Football in the fall and watching his grandchildren grow up.

Lottery Ticket Delivers $50,000 To Fairfield Pizza Shop Owner
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- At 24 years old, Samuel Silva of Fairfield has done pretty well for himself. He's the busy owner-operator of Greenwich's Planet Pizza pizza, and he doesn't usually play the lottery.
"Once in a blue moon I'll play," Silva said.
But he did, recently, after his employees mentioned playing. He headed across the street from the pizza shop, tried out a "5X The Money 8th Edition" ticket and was startled to find a $50,000 top prize.
Silva first told his mom the news, she also reacted with surprise: "Wow, really!?"

Northvale Celebrates Centennial With Festivities, Craft Beer
NORTHVALE, N.J. -- Northvale is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, and the Friends of the Northvale Public Library, the Growler & Gill Craft Beer Shoppe and local leaders are teaming up for a family-friendly event on Sunday, Oct. 30.
