Beginning Monday, Part of Ramapo's Hempstead Road Will Close Daily RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A portion of Hempstead Road will be closed each day, starting on Monday, Aug. 15, the Town of Ramapo Police Department has advised. Hempstead Road will be closed in both directions between New Hempstead Road and Brick Church Road, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. The work should be finished by approximately Friday, Aug. 26. The closure is to replace a gas main.

K9 Unit Helps Detect Hidden Cocaine In I-87 Stop NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Rockland County's K9 officer, Shadow, put his nose to good use Wednesday, in an assist call from the New York State Police. NYSP Troop T requested Sgt. Chris Ford and his partner, Shadow, provide a drug sniff of a vehicle they'd stopped on I-87 by Exit 10. Shadow alerted to a drug odor from inside the vehicle, and officers found a hidden compartment in the vehicle's floorboard. The search netted over seven ounces of crack cocaine and 17 grams of marijuana, and the state police arrested the driver.
