Darien Girls Win Memorial Day Essay Contest DARIEN, Conn. -- Kathleen McIlree of Middlesex Middle School and Katy Murphy of Darien High School were named as authors of the best essays from the 2014 Memorial Day Essay Contest sponsored by the Monuments and Ceremonies Commission of Darien. “We were delighted to receive so many fine poems and essays this year from more than 90 students. Greens Farms Tennis Girls Tennis Repeats As New England Champions WESTPORT, Conn. -- The girls tennis team from Greens Farms Academy in Westport captured the New England Prep School Athletic Council Class C tennis championship for the second straight year Sunday. Greens Farms defeated Winsor School of Boston, 6-3, at Westminster School in the finals. GFA also defeated Cheshire Academy and Millbrook School to reach the championship. Frattaroli's 2-Hitter Helps Italian Center Win In Stamford LL STAMFORD Conn. -- Christian Frattaroli tossed a two-hitter as Italian Center beat First County Bank, 5-0, in Stamford Little League action. Ethan Skaug bashed three hits and Frattaroli added a double for the IC (6-4). Arjav Chhabra and Jack Robinson stood out defensively for the victors. Justin Lockery and Dan D’Arinzo pitched well for First County (2-4) despite the loss. Andrew Gray and James Lavelle both singled. Darien Player Helps Duke Reach Men's Lacrosse Semifinals FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Darien High School graduate Case Matheis scored three goals and dished out two assists Sunday, May 18, to help Duke beat Johns Hopkins, 19-11, in the quarterfinals of the NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament. Pelham Grad Helps Notre Dame Reach Men's Lacrosse Semis PELHAM, N.Y. -- Matt Landis, a sophomore defenseman from Pelham Memorial High School, has been a key member for Notre Dame’s men’s lacrosse team in its run to the NCAA semifinals.
