Semi-Pro Soccer Team Finds Home At Western Connecticut State In Danbury DANBURY, Conn. — Western Connecticut State University’s Westside Athletic Complex has become the new home of the Newtown-based, semi-professional soccer team CFC Azul. The team is financed by Newtown resident and team managing partner Peter D’Amico. CFC Azul has signed a three-year contract with the university, which will host the team’s home games. This agreement is the latest in a string of community-building sports programs that D’Amico has spearheaded in the area since his own youth soccer coaching days in the 1980s. 3 Norwalk Teams Still Alive In District 1 Little League NORWALK, Conn. – All three Norwalk Little League teams advanced to the championship round of the District 1 Tournament and will continue their quests for district titles Monday. Norwalk’s 12-year-old All-Stars meet Stamford National at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Stamford’s Scalzi Park. Norwalk went 3-1 in pool play and earned the second seed in Pool A. Westport Softball Team Ousted From State Little League Tournament FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The Redding-Easton 12-and-under softball team stayed alive in Division 1 of the Connecticut Little League tournament Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Westport in Orange. Redding-Easton plays North Branford on Monday at 7 p.m. If Redding wins, it will force a winner-take-all championship game Tuesday. Redding lost its first game to North Branford, 5-4. North Branford also defeated Westport, 2-1. Westport’s season ended with the loss to Redding-Easton on Sunday. Dally, Trefz Win Longshore Women's President's Cup In Westport WESTPORT, Conn. -- Jane Dally and Phyllis Trefz won low gross honors in the recent Longshore Women's Golf Association President's Cup. The two-player tournament was played over two weeks and 14 teams participated. Dally and Trefz posted a winning total of 150. Katie Pulino and Linda Crowell won net honors with 119. Yvonne Dougherty and Jo Rasmussen were second in gross scoring (157) and Suzanne Goldstein and Sarah Kelley (121) took second in the net division. The tournament is the second major of the season for the organization.
