New Canaan's Campbell Sisters Earn Berth In Junior World Rowing Meet NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan sisters Mary and Claire Campbell won the USRowing Junior World Championships in double sculls on Wednesday and will represent the United States in the Junior World Championships next month in Hamburg, Germany. The Campbell sisters, rowing for Norwalk-based Maritime Rowing Club, went head-to-head with Sagamore Rowing Association’s Adrienne Bielawski and Y Quad Cities Rowing’s Caroline Sharis, who won the first final Tuesday morning by less than one second. Westchester Single Family Home Sales Drop Sharply In Second Quarter WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Sales of single family homes fell 13.5 percent in the second quarter of 2014 and showed minimal growth over the same quarter last year, according to a report from the Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors. The numbers from Westchester reflected a trend from the three other counties in the Hudson Gateway Report, which also includes statistics from Putnam, Rockland and Orange counties. Harrison Rower Named To U.S. Junior Team For World Meet HARRISON, N.Y. – Two local rowers joined forces Tuesday to earn a berth on the United States team that will compete in the World Rowing Junior Championships next month in Hamburg, Germany. Liliane Lindsay of Harrison and Meghan Galloway of Ridgefield, Conn., and swept the women’s pair races at the Junior World Trials in Mercer Lake in New Jersey. Galloway rows for the Connecticut Boat Club, which is based in Norwalk. Lindsay and Galloway posted a time of 7:45.28 in Tuesday’s second final, winning the race by about 20 seconds. Wilton Wahoos Raise $19K At Swim Across America For Cancer Research WILTON, Conn. -- Wilton Wahoos swimmers took part in the recent eighth annual Greenwich/Stamford Swim Across America Open Water event. Headed by Team Captain Jim O'Brien, Team "Kicking Cancer for Karen, Chris and Friends" raised over $19,000 and was one of the top three fundraising teams in the event. Norwalk Riptide Softball Team Rolls To 2 Tournament Titles NORWALK, Conn. -- The 16-and-under Norwalk Riptide softball team won recent tournaments in Southington and Orangeburg, N.Y. The Riptide went 6-0 to win the Lightning Flash Pony Invitational Tournament Crown in Southington. In pool play on Saturday, the Riptide swept all three games beating the Shoreline Sting, 9-1; Stratford Breakers, 7-0; and the CT Titans Green. 8-0, highlighted by pitcher Casey Dicine’s no-hitter. Returning To Writing After A Several Month Hiatus In Pound Ridge POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- As many of you know, I've been on hiatus for several months. New Golf Outing Sets Out To Support Darien Football DARIEN, Conn. – The first Darien Blue Wave Football Alumni and Friends Golf outing will be played on Monday, July 14, at Wee Burn Country Club. The outing will be a four man best ball with a shotgun start. The cost is $375 per person and will include 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, open bar, dinner and an awards ceremony. Westport Ranks No. 82 In State In Study Of Bike/Walk Friendliness FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Weston ranked seventh in the state as the most bike and walk friendly community in Fairfield County, according to a new study released by bikewalkct.org.
