Fairfield American Little League Heads For Next Round Of Playoffs FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield American Little League begins play Thursday in the Division 1 stage of the state tournament. If history is any indication, it could be the next stage of an extended summer of baseball for the young ballplayers. Fairfield American won three straight state titles from 2010 to 2012. Norwalk Little League Captures Pair Of District Banners NORWALK, Conn. – On Saturday, the Norwalk Little League 12-year-old All-Stars won their first District 1 title in 28 years. On Sunday, the league’s 10-year-old All-Stars added their own district crown and showed that more titles may be on the way. Sunday’s 9-4 win over Stamford National by Norwalk’s 10-year-old All-Stars gave the league two District 1 champions in the same year for the first time. Stamford's Springdale Team Wins District 10-11 Baseball Title STAMFORD, Conn. -- The 10/11-year-old All Stars of Springdale Little League steamrolled opposition on their way to winning the Connecticut District 1 tournament. Concluding with a 9-4 victory Saturday over Stamford National Little League, the Springdale 10/11s led their opponents by the end of every inning, except two, en route to a 7-0 record in tournament. The team scored 81 runs in total while yielding just 13, resulting in five of the team’s seven games being won in “mercy-rule” shortened fashion as Springdale held a lead of 10 or more runs by the end of the fourth or fifth inning. …

Fairfield American Intermediate Team Wins State Championship FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield American District Intermediate 50/70 team won the Connecticut state championship last week. Fairfield American advances to the Eastern Regional Tournament that will begin on Saturday, July 19, in East Northport, N.Y. Fairfield American went 3-0 in the state tournament, beating Coginchaug, 11-10; Coventry, 13-11, and Coventry again, 17-7. The tournament was played in Middlefield. Fundraising Nears $10 Million For Greenwich's Nathaniel Witherell GREENWICH, Conn. – The Friends of Nathaniel Witherell Inc. helped to raise $9.8 million for Project Renew, the capital campaign to modernize and refurbish the Nathaniel Witherell in Greenwich. The short-term rehabilitation and long-term nursing care center is owned by the town of Greenwich. Redding, Easton 9-10 Softball Team Wins District Title REDDING, Conn. – The Redding-Easton 9- and 10-year-old softball team completed a dominating run to the District 1 title Saturday with a 12-0 win over New Canaan. Redding-Easton went 5-0 in the tournament and outscored opponents, 63-0. The title is the fourth straight championship in the 9-10 age group in District 1 for Redding-Easton, which also won the 12-year-old championship this summer.
