Fairfield Cyclists Can Still Register For Connecticut Challenge FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Registration for the Connecticut Challenge's 10th anniversary bike ride is still open for new riders and teams. With nearly 950 riders and over 90 teams already registered, the two-day ride takes place Friday and Saturday. A 100-mile ride on Friday kicks off the fundraising event starting in Lakeville and finishes in Westport. The Saturday ride has options for 10-, 25-, 50-, 75- and 100-mile rides, which all start and finish at the Fairfield County Hunt Club in Westport. Fairfield American Advances In Little League Tournament FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield American defeated Norwalk on Sunday, 10-7, to win the Division 1 Little League Tournament in Orange. Fairfield American plays Farmington on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Orange for the Section 1 championship. The winner of that game will play the Section 2 winner in a three-game series for the state championship. The Americans, who won three straight state championships from 2010 to 2012, lost for the first time this summer on Saturday when Norwalk posted an 8-4 victory. Danbury, Ridgefield See Late Surge In Real Estate Activity In 2nd Quarter FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The rough winter delayed the spring house-selling season in Danbury and Ridgefield, but sales surged in late May and June to give both communities their second best totals in the past five years. Norwalk Nurse Leads Cancer Survivors On Cycling Training Ride FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Norwalk’s Joyce Quinlan led a team of 22 cancer survivors on 25-mile bike ride Saturday as part of a training program for the upcoming Connecticut Challenge. Quinlan, a nurse at Norwalk Hospital and breast cancer survivor, is also a spinning instructor for the Connecticut Challenge. She is the captain for the team that will ride in the Challenge on July 26. Friday Afternoon Accident Jams I-95 In Greenwich FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Fairfield County traffic got off to bad start when a two-car closed one lane of Interstate 95 southbound in Greenwich at 4:19 p.m. The report on the Connecticut Department of Transportion website did not indicate how long the delay would last. At 4:26 p.m., a car fire created further trouble Northbound on I-95. The car fire occurred near Exit 7 in Stamford and closed the left lane. New Canaan's Curt Casali Promoted To Majors By Tampa Bay Rays NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- New Canaan’s Curt Casali was called up by the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, and the catcher will make his debut in a major league uniform Friday on the road against Minnesota. Casali, 25, got the promotion after Tampa Bay's starting catcher Ryan Harrigan was placed on the disabled list. Casali will be the backup catcher to veteran Jose Molina. Casali, a former star at Vanderbilt, has played at Double A Montgomery and Triple A Durham this year. He hit .314 in 22 games at Montgomery and .237 in 46 games at Durham. Accident In Norwalk Slows Friday Morning Commute FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – An accident involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 North in Norwalk slowed Friday morning traffic for Fairfield County commuters. The accident occurred at 7:57 a.m. near Exit 14. The accident blocked the right lane. The Connecticut Department of Transportation also reported congestion on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield, Westport and Stamford.
