John Jay Falls In Sectional Football Playoffs WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- New Rochelle and Mamaroneck advanced to the semifinals of the Section 1 Class AA football playoffs Saturday with quarterfinal-round victories. Sleepy Hollow, Rye, Somers and Yorktown advanced in the Class A playoffs, while Rye Neck advanced to the Class C championship game. Norwalk's Marching Bears Mows Over Competition NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk High School Marching Band took first place in the National Class of Bands at a Musical Arts Conference competition in Newtown on Oct. 18. Norwalk also won Best Color Guard’ and Best Percussion. Competing against rival Trumbull, the Bears won with a total of 92.35, while Trumbull was second with 90.75. The Brien McMahon Band also competed in this event in Class IV hey scored a very well earned and respectable 81.55. Westchester Teams Kick Off Section 1 Football Playoffs WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Mamaroneck High School’s football team has lost its last two games against Scarsdale High School. On Saturday, the schools that are separated by less than six miles will meet in the first round of the Section 1 Class AA football playoffs. The Tigers (6-1) and Raiders (6-1) kick off at 2:30 p.m. at Scarsdale. Bridgeport Teacher Gets Help From 'Ellen' For Music Program BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A University of Bridgeport student received help from an unlikely source in helping to raise money for musical instruments at her New York City public school. Melissa Salguero, a Bridgeport resident and a master’s degree student at UB, appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres" show last month.
