Iona Prep's Matt Ryan Named New York's Mr. Basketball CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Iona Prep senior Matt Ryan, a resident of Cortlandt Manor, was selected last week as Mr. New York Basketball by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York. Ryan averaged 19 points and eight rebounds per game for the Gaels, who finished the season 22-6. The 6-foot, 7-inch forward has committed to play in college at Notre Dame. Ryan missed most of his junior season due to a hip injury that required surgery. After returning to full strength late in the summer, he helped Iona Prep to its first Archdiocesan AA championship game in school history. The season ended with …

Ciocci Joins Pace Football Coaching Staff PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Steven Ciocci has joined the Pace University football coaching staff as the offensive line coach, head coach Andrew Rondeau announced. Ciocci served previously as the tackles and tight ends coach at Wagner College. While at Wagner College, Ciocci was responsible for installing the offensive concepts for the tight ends in addition to organizing practice plans and drills for the tight ends and tackles. Wilton High Girls Basketball Team Rolls To State Title WILTON, Conn. -- Sparked by senior Erin Cunningham, Wilton High School's girls basketball team opened the game with a 14-3 run and cruised past South Windsor, 73-45, to win the Class LL championship Saturday night at Mohegan Sun. Cunningham scored 33 points to pace the Warriors to their first girls basketball state title. The second-seeded Warriors finish the season 24-1. Top-seeded Windsor also finished 24-1. Darien Wins First State Hockey Title Since 1969 DARIEN, Conn. -- Jack Pardue's second-period goal accounted for the game's only goal Saturday as Darien High School defeated Greenwich, 1-0, to win the Division I state title. Darien won its first state title since 1969. The game was played at Ingalls Rink on the campus of Yale University in New Haven. Scarsdale's Kanner Helps Take Tufts Back To NCAA D3 Women's Final Four SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- The Tufts University women’s basketball team has lost just two games outside of the Final Four the past two seasons.
