Law Park Tops Village Manager's Report
BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- Teardown for the Law Park pavilion's super structure will begin later this week, according to Village Manager Philip E. Zegarelli’s latest report. The village had a mobilization meeting with the demolition company over the teardown. Work will primarily include the recently-burned pavilion's super structure, major additional cleanup, enhanced safety barriers and protective measure for the remaining portions. New Canaan Library Screens Food Waste Documentary 'Just Eat It'
NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan Library will screen "Just Eat It" as part of its documentary film festival Friday. "Just Eat It" documents the issue of food waste and how nearly 50 percent of food gets thrown into the trash. In "Just Eat It," the filmmakers quit grocery shopping and subsist solely on foods that would be thrown away. The screening takes place at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room. Mahopac Library Screens Documentary On Industrial Hemp
MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- The Mahopac Public Library will screen "Bringing It Home" on Tuesday, Feb. 23. The documentary covers the history of industrial hemp as well as its environmental, health and economic benefits. Walk-ins are welcome, but advance registration is requested. Fox Lane Grad Peretz Gets His Points Across In College
BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Fox Lane High School alumnus Dylan Peretz has played in 19 of the 20 games this season at the University of Rochester men's basketball team, starting in 10 of them. Now a senior, Peretz is one of the Yellowjacket's two senior captains and averages 5.2 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game and 20.1 minutes per game. Peretz ranks first on the team in total blocks with 13 and second in total rebounds with 128. The Yellowjackets currently have a record of 14-6 and a UAA conference record of 7-2, which ties for second place in the conference.

Yonkers Firefighters Battle Blaze At Apartment Building
YONKERS, N.Y. -- The Yonkers Fire Department battled a blaze Friday afternoon at 114 Maple St. The Fire Department was dispatched to the building to extinguish a one-alarm fire in the top apartment that appears to have started from a long extension cord that powered an electric heater. Two families were living in the four-story, six-family building and will need to be relocated following the fire. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

Two Dutchess County school districts are among the 100 best in New York, according to the education website Niche. SPCA's Briarcliff Shelter Seeks Sponsors For Lonely Hearts Club
BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- SPCA of Westchester is looking for people to sponsor a dog or cat from its Lonely Hearts Club for Valentine's Day. The Lonely Hearts Club consists of overlooked dogs and cats who have lived at the SPCA for more than six months. Families looking to adopt one of the club's furry companions are given special incentives, but many still need a loving home. The cost for sponsoring a cat still seeking a home is $25 for a month and $50 for a dog. The amount covers the cost of food, toys, medication and enrichment training.
