Capital District City Approves Funding For More Officers In Schools Students will soon see more police officers on campus in Schenectady public schools. The city council approved a controversial agreement between the Schenectady Police Department and the school district Monday, May 9, that will provide up to six officers in schools over the next three years, according to the resolution. Theft Suspect Injures Officer During Arrest At Long Island Walmart, Police Say A woman is accused of assaulting a police officer during an arrest at a Long Island Walmart. Officers were called to the store in Valley Stream on Green Acres Road at around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, May 8, with reports that a woman was stealing items, Nassau County Police said. After arriving at the Walmart store, officers determined that the female suspect was likely the same woman wanted for an earlier altercation at a cell phone store at the Green Acres Mall, police said. Man On Electric Bicycle Killed In Crash In Capital District A man has died after he was struck by a car while riding an electric bicycle in the Capital District. The crash happened Monday, May 9, in Warren County, near the Pine View Cemetery in Queensbury, according to New York State Police. Investigators said Kelly Burke, age 53, of Granville in Washington County, was driving the bike when he crossed State Route 254 and was struck by a Chevrolet Impala. Alert Issued For Missing Teen From Capital District Police are asking for help in locating a missing teen from the Capital District. Shuandy Pineda-Garcia, age 15, is believed to be in the Albany area, according to Saratoga Springs Police. Garcia is Hispanic and speaks Spanish, police said. She’s described as 4-feet-5-inches tall weighing 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. It's not known what clothing she had on when she was last seen, police said. Moose On Loose In Capital District Officials are warning the public after several moose sightings in Schenectady County, CBS6 in Albany reports. The animal has been spotted multiple times along the Mohawk River, including the area of Providence and Hillside avenues in Niskayuna, the outlet reports. Residents are warned not to feed or approach the moose should they come across it. Woman Injured In Early Morning Shooting In Capital District A woman is recovering after an early morning shooting in Albany. It happened at around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, near Partridge Street and Madison Avenue, Albany Police said. The 60-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other reports of injuries. Children's Hospital Donations Among $1M Stolen By Club Member From Capital District, Police Say Among the nearly $1 million that was allegedly stolen by an Albany club member were donations to a children’s hospital, Albany Police said. Officers arrested 38-year-old Kenneth Frodyma, of Feura Bush in New Scotland, Thursday, May 5. Woman Busted Driving Drunk On Just Rims In Capital District, Police Say A woman from the Capital Region was drunk and driving on just rims before she was stopped by troopers, New York State Police said. A trooper stopped Elizabeth Sheyon, age 41, of Troy, at around 3 a.m. Saturday, May 7, after seeing sparks coming from her car as she drove south on I-87 in Clifton Park, police said. Hang Glider Injured After Landing In Tree In Capital District A hang glider is scratched up but otherwise okay after an unplanned landing in a wooded area of the Capital District. Emergency crews were alerted shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, of a hang glider who was down in an area off Carrick Road in East Berne, in Albany County, according to the New York State Police.
