Car-Carrying Trailer Catches On Fire On Westchester Roadway A tractor-trailer hauling several cars caught on fire on a Westchester County highway.  On Wednesday morning, Oct. 19, the Purchase Fire Department responded to a fire involving a tractor-trailer on I-287 in the area of I-684, fire officials said.  After arriving at the scene, fire officials found the trailer on fire along with several of the cars that it was carrying, according to the fire department.  After another fire engine arrived at the scene, the blaze was put out with no injuries, fire officials said. $1 Million Goes To Hospital In Hudson Valley To Help Reopen Birthing Center State-funded grants and community donations totaling $1 million will go to a hospital located in the Hudson Valley to help it reopen its birthing center.  Upgrades to the Putnam Hospital's birthing center are being funded by three major sources, according to Nuvance Health, which owns the hospital in Carmel:  A $500,000 state grant funded by New York's Community Local Community Assistance Program; $250,000 from the Kearney Realty and Development Group from the Northern Westchester town of Somers; $250,000 from the Putnam Community Foundation. Winning Take-5 Ticket Sold At Supermarket In Westchester Two prize-winning lottery tickets valued at more than $18,000 were sold at stores in the Hudson Valley.  The two separate $18,232.50 Take-5 tickets were sold at stores in Westchester County, in Harrison, and in Putnam County, in Carmel, New York Lottery announced on Tuesday evening, Oct. 18.  NY Lottery said the ticket in Harrison was purchased at Wegmans, located at 106 Corporate Park Drive, and that the ticket in Carmel was purchased at Kent Liquors, located at 1100 Route 52.  The winning numbers were 7-11-28-35-39.

Man Gets 15 Years For Sexual Conduct With Child In Northern Westchester A man has been sentenced for engaging in sexual conduct with a child in Westchester County. On Tuesday, Oct. 18, 34-year-old Putnam County resident Segundo Loja-Mayancela, of Mahopac, was sentenced to 15 years in state prison followed by 15 years of supervised release, according to Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah. Rocah said Loja-Mayancela had subjected a minor to intercourse and other sexual acts on numerous occasions in Ossining, which began in January 2017 when the victim was 10 years old and ended in October 2019. Busy Port Chester Intersection On Route 1 Closed Until Further Notice A busy intersection in Westchester County will be closed until further notice.  The King Street turnaround in Liberty Square accessed from traffic traveling south along North Main Street (Route 1) in Port Chester will be closed indefinitely, Port Chester village officials announced.  The turnaround will be closed so village officials can investigate an "undermining of the roadway" and prevent large vehicles and commercial traffic from accessing the portion of the road.  Commuters are asked to use alternate routes.

Suspect Nabbed In Robbery Of Westchester Gas Station A 35-year-old man is being charged with robbing a Northern Westchester County gas station and assaulting an employee. On Sunday, Oct. 16, at around 4 a.m., police responded to a robbery in Peekskill, at the Mobil gas station located at 120 Washington St. where they found a male employee who had suffered a cut to his face, police said.
