Cocaine Shipped Through Mail: CT Man Busted After Picking It Up, Will Spend Years In Jail A Meriden man will spend years in prison after picking up packages full of cocaine that were shipped through the US Postal Service. Jean Carlos Mercado, age 34, was sentenced on Friday, Feb. 10 to 50 months in prison for participating in a drug trafficking organization that sent kilogram quantities of cocaine through the US Mail, according to the US Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut. Drunk Driver Caught After Crashing In Yorktown, Police Say A drunk driver faces both charges and injuries after crashing in Northern Westchester, police said. The incident happened on Tuesday, Feb. 7, around 2 p.m., when officers responded to a one-car crash in Yorktown near the intersection of Strang Boulevard and Oakside Road, according to Yorktown Police. Fake Phone Calls Increase In Hudson Valley: Scammers Impersonating Banks, Police Authorities in the region are warning of an increase in fake phone calls coming from scammers who impersonate banks or police officers to solicit money or personal information. Lane Closures: Busy Roadway In Northern Westchester To Be Affected For More Than Week Commuters are being warned that a major state route in Northern Westchester will soon be affected by lane closures. Starting on Tuesday, Feb. 14, one lane of State Route 9A in both directions will close between State Route 117 in Mount Pleasant and US Route 9 in Ossining, the New York Department of Transportation announced. The closures will be in effect on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Wednesday, Feb. 22, weather permitting. The lane closures are being implemented to allow for roadway work.

Pole Comes Crashing Down On Rolled-Over Car In Vernon A person had to be rescued through a sunroof after their vehicle rolled over in Vernon, causing a telephone pole to come crashing down. The crash happened during the early morning of Friday, Feb. 10 around 2 a.m., when police and firefighters were sent to the area of 248 Vernon Ave. for a report of a rolled-over vehicle, according to the Vernon Fire Department.
