3 Dead Following Head-On Capital Region Crash Three people were killed in a head-on highway crash in the region. The Greene County wreck happened just before 5 p.m. Saturday, July 20, on Route 23 in the town of Windham. Sheriff’s officials said a Buick SUV was heading eastbound on State Route 23 when it collided with a westbound Chevrolet pickup truck near the intersection of Cross Road. Two passengers in the Buick were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third Buick passenger died at Albany Medical Center. Beloved Principal ID'd As Victim Killed In Capital Region Crash: 'He Was The Heart And Soul' Students and colleagues are mourning the sudden loss of a beloved elementary school principal following his death in a car crash. The Saratoga County wreck happened at around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, in the town of Charlton on State Road. New York State Police said Nicholas Criscone, age 50, of Charlton, was driving southbound on Stage Road when his vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, and caught on fire. Full Closures Planned For Portion Of Sunrise Highway Scheduled highway closures could cause delays for Long Island drivers in the coming days. In Suffolk County, all westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway (Route 27) are slated to close nightly in the town of Babylon beginning on Monday, July 22. Murder Of Convenience Store Clerk In Capital Region Remains Mystery 31 Years On Three decades after Betty Conley was shot and killed while working at a convenience store in the region, her killer has yet to face justice. The Saratoga County murder happened in the town of Charlton, at the Xtra Mart on State Route 67, at around 3 a.m. on July 8, 1993. Fatal Crash: 31-Year-Old ID'd As Victim On East Patchogue Roadway A 31-year-old was killed in a crash on Long Island. The incident happened in East Patchogue, on Americus Avenue south of Brookhaven Avenue, at around 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18. Suffolk County Police said the man, Noe Moran Contreras, of East Patchogue, was operating a dirt bike when he lost control and struck a pole. He was taken by ambulance to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead. Investigators impounded the bike for a safety check.
