Wilton's New First Selectman Proposes Power Shift WILTON, CONN. -- Wilton’s newly minted First Selectman Lynne Vanderslice is proposing a way to smooth the town’s administrative process, according to a report in the Wilton Bulletin. According to the report, Vanderslice said that the board’s time could be better spent on strategic discussions than toiling over the relatively trivial details of certain grants and contracts. Vanderslice’s proposal would delegate power to the first selectman, making other town executives’ signatures unnecessary in specific, predetermined, cases, the Bulletin reported. State DEC Reports Manhole Overflow In Valley Cottage VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. -- The state Department of Environmental Protection has issued an alert after a sanitary sewer overflowed in Valley Cottage last weekend. The DEC said that the overflow occurred on Saturday, Dec. 12, near, or at, 5 Reina Court in the Clarkstown hamlet. The discharge sparked concerns about DeForest Lake, a nearby reservoir. The overflow was blamed on debris blocking the sanitary sewer line. It took authorities about two hours to correct the problem. Fairfield Police Probe Report Of Swerving School Bus FAIRFIELD, CONN. -- Fairfield police are investigating after a student called his mother to report that the school bus he was on was serving all over the road and that the driver appeared ready to pass out, according to a report on ctpost.com The frantic mom called police who tracked down the bus and stopped it at 1076 Fairfield Beach Road, the report said.
