Report Finds Gas Prices Jump By More Than 30 Cents A Gallon In Bridgeport FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield County motorists felt a bit lighter in the wallet after the New Year as gas prices jumped by more than 30 cents per gallon, according to AAA Northeast. The agency's weekly survey of prices in Connecticut found self-serve, regular gas averaged $2.47 a gallon, 32 cents higher than this time last year. Nationally, gas prices are averaging $2.35, 36 cents higher than this time last year. No Injuries Reported After Freight Train Derails In Brookfield BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- Brookfield Police reported no injuries after a northbound freight train derailed on a section of track on Tuesday near Silvermine Road. The train appeared to be carrying construction debris or garbage. There were no injuries reported and the loads on the train cars appear to have remained in the cars, police said. The Housatonic Railroad reported there are no hazardous materials involved. Railroad officials are on scene evaluating the situation and determining how repairs will be made.  The train was en route to Pittsfield, Mass.
