Longshore Women's Golf In Westport Crowns Club Champs WESTPORT, Conn. – Leela Narang-Benaderet won the championship flight in the The Longshore Women’s Golf Association’s tournament in Westport. Narang-Benaderet posted a 36-hole score of 155, 12 better than runner-up Jo Rasmussen. Stamford Swimmer Qualifies For Olympic Trials STAMFORD, Conn. -- Jack Montesi, a member of the CP-AC swim team at Stamford's Chelsea Piers Connecticut, qualified for the 2016 U.S.Olympic Team Trials-Swimming after his performance in the 200-meter butterfly at the U.S. Junior National Championships in San Antonio. The 17-year-old Greenwich native has been a member of CP-AC Swim Team for three seasons, dating to the opening of Chelsea Piers Connecticut. Montesi and the team are coached by Jamie Barone. Sister Bernice Florence Babin, 99, Of Maryknoll In Ossining OSSINING, N.Y. -- Sister Bernice Florence Babin, MM, a nurse who served at one of the first racially integrated hospitals in the United States, as well as in several South American countries, died Sunday, Aug. 9, at Maryknoll Sisters Center, Ossining. She was 99. Born on Aug. 5, 1916, in Plaisted, Maine, to Joseph and Eulalia Labbe Babin, Sister Bernice graduated from Our Lady of Wisdom Academy, St. Agatha, Maine and then worked for several years as a bookkeeper and stenographer before entering Maryknoll Sisters from St. Lucy’s Parish, Frenchville, Maine, on Aug. 5, 1941. Norwalk Rower Wins Gold At World Junior Championships FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Ridgefield’s Kaitlyn Kynast won a gold medal with the United States at the World Rowing Junior Championships last week in Brazil. Darien’s Julia Cornacchia won a bronze medal, while Westport’s Oliver Bub and Lucas Manning also competed for the U.S. in the competition in Rio de Janiero. Five U.S. teams won medals, which tied for second with Italy behind Germany, with 11 medals. Kynast competed on the women’s four with Dana Moffat, Marlee Blue and Katy Gillingham. Wilton's Kealy Wins Race At Swimming Futures Championship WILTON, Conn. -- Tommy Kealy of Wilton won the 200 meter butterfly at the recent USA Swimming Futures Championship meet in Greensboro, N.C. Kealy trimmed his 200 butterfly time by more than three seconds and won the race in in 2:02.12, which is under a Senior National qualifying time. He swam a personal best in the 100 meter butterfly, finishing in third place with a time of 55.28. Norwalk's Cal Ripken 11-Year-Old All-Stars Have Memorable Summer NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Cal Ripken 11-year-old All-Stars and their splendid summer season came to a halt last week in New Hampshire. In the larger picture, however, the players and their families will remember the high points from a 25-4 season that included three tournament championships. Genevieve Babiar, 98, Lived In Ossining OSSINING, N.Y. -- Genevieve (Jean) Babiar, 98, died recently in Ossining. Babiar was born in Yonkers, on Sept. 3, 1916 to Charles and Mary Kopec. She was married in St. Casimir’s Church in Yonkers on Nov. 21, 1945 to John P. Babiar, who predeceased her in 1991. She and her husband owned Dolega Photo Studio in Yonkers.
