Alex Jones’ $50M Sandy Hook Judgment Slashed To $1.5M In Texas Ruling: Report A Texas appeals court handed Alex Jones a major legal victory by cutting a $50 million judgment against him to $1.5 million, according to Bloomberg Law.  However, the ruling does not affect the $1.4B judgment against him in Connecticut.  The unanimous ruling came Friday, Aug. 21, in the 2022 jury trial involving Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, whose 6-year-old son, Jesse Lewis,  was killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.  The parents sued Jones and his media company, Free Speech Systems LLC. Waterbury Woman Charged In Fatal OUI Crash That Killed Danbury Man: Police A Connecticut man is dead, and a woman was arrested after police say she crashed her SUV into him and several parked cars while intoxicated. Meralis Rivera-Maldonado, 38, of Waterbury, faces a manslaughter charge following the crash at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in the 600 block of South Main Street in Waterbury, police said. Investigators allege Rivera-Maldonado crashed into a 43-year-old Danbury pedestrian and kept driving until she crashed into two unoccupied vehicles.  The Danbury man suffered severe head injuries from the crash and died at the scene. BIRDCODE will open a new store in Plainville on Friday, Aug. 21, at 359 New Britain Ave. The restaurant is in a plaza with Doro, Jersey Mike’s and Shangri La., the company said in a news release.  The Plainville restaurant will offer dine-in seating and takeout. Clayton Maheu, 49, of Plainfield, was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 20. Jonathan Kyle Hansen, 44, of West Suffield, died from his injuries on Sunday, Aug. 16. He competed in the professional class of the QXNE racing series. A GoFundMe created to help his family pay funeral costs and other expenses had raised more than $21,000 by Thursday evening, Aug. 20. Angel Ramos, 53, of Ware, was sentenced to 20 to 25 years in state prison, the Northwestern District Attorney's Office said on Thursday, Aug. 20. Tractor-Trailer Erupts In Flames On I-84 In Southington, Drawing Tanker Response A tractor-trailer burst into flames on I-84, forcing firefighters to call for more water and foam as crews beat back the intense blaze.  The fire broke out around 12:55 a.m. in the eastbound lanes between Exits 32 and 33 in Southington.  Crews found the detached Amazon trailer fully engulfed in fire. The cab had pulled away, leaving the driver safe.  The fire was so intense that firefighters needed extra water and foam to contain it. South Kensington sent a tanker to help crews at the scene. Officials do not believe any dangerous chemicals were in the truck.

2 Killed After Kia Slams Into Dump Truck On I-84 In Tolland Two people were killed when a Kia struck the back of a dump truck on I-84 West, state police said. Paige Cooke of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Kristina Murphy of Wilmington, Massachusetts, died in the crash near Exit 68 on Wednesday night, Aug. 19, in Tolland, Connecticut State Police said.  Cooke was driving the Kia. Murphy was her passenger. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The dump truck was traveling in the right lane. The Kia was directly behind it, according to police.
