'A True Legend': Mount Vernon Man Known For Singlehandedly Fixing City Roads Dies A longtime public works employee for a Westchester County city known for his dedication to his work has died. Mount Vernon resident James "Jimmy" Sgammato died on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the age of 65, according to the Mount Vernon Department of Public Works. Sgammato, called a "true Mount Vernon legend," by the department, started working for the city in 1995 and became a parks maintainer in December 2000, department officials said. Duo Caught With 'Ghost Gun' After Traffic Stop In New Rochelle: Police Two people have been charged with illegally possessing a weapon after a traffic stop in Westchester County, police said. On Wednesday, Dec. 7, around 6:50 p.m., police in New Rochelle saw a Mercedes Benz commit multiple traffic violations on the 700 block of Main Street (Route 1), and pulled the vehicle over, according to New Rochelle Police. Man Charged With Stealing Woman's Purse In Mamaroneck Police have charged a suspect with stealing a woman's purse while she was walking on the street in Westchester County. On Friday, Dec. 2, around 6:30 p.m., police responded to a robbery in Mamaroneck at the 100 block of Mamaroneck Avenue after a witness reported that a man had stolen a purse from the 74-year-old victim before running down the street with it, according to Village of Mamaroneck Police. 'Never Forget The Tragedies': Schumer Calls For Safer Train Crossings In Hudson Valley Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer is calling for safer train crossings across the Hudson Valley to prevent more people from being injured or killed in accidents. Long Island Man In Stolen Vehicle Caught After Driving 122 MPH, Crashing: Police A Long Island man is in trouble for not just driving a stolen vehicle, but also traveling at more than 120 mph in traffic during a fast-paced chase, police said. Ossining resident Jennifer Maria Arduini died on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the age of 48, according to her obituary.
