'Fed Up With Being Dumped On:' Landfill Reps Promise Less Gas Emissions For NJ Residents
South Jersey residents turned out in droves to air their frustrations over the stench caused by landfills that's been stinking up their neighborhoods for decades. Local resident Anthony Kucharski told the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) at the Thursday, Jan. 11 public hearing that the agency's landfill is ruining the quality of life in Absecon and other nearby communities. John McTague, a financial executive from the Jersey Shore, had died at 51 years old, according to his obituary. The online memorial said McTague died while walking his dog on Wednesday, Jan. 10. A former executive for a low-income apartment building in Long Branch is accused of stealing more than $1.6 million from his company for more than a decade, authorities said. John O'Donnell, 57, of Scotch Plains is charged with second-degree theft by unlawful taking, third-degree forgery, and third-degree false uttering, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced. Authorities have identified the pedestrian who was killed in Freehold on Tuesday, Jan. 9. A spokesperson for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said 61-year-old David Belcher was hit by a pickup on Route 9 South. No hometown for Belcher was given as of Thursday, Jan. 11. Police in The Bahamas are investigating the death of a New Jersey man while he was snorkeling, authorities said. The 66-year-old man began "experiencing difficulties" when he was snorkeling just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said. A family in Honduras is asking for support after a woman was hit and killed by a car in Lakewood on Monday, Jan. 8. Lakewood police said 28-year-old Ana Gabriella Mayorga-Baires was struck while she was walking at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Erica Road just after 5:30 p.m. She was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead at around 6:15 p.m. A 67-year-old man said he didn't see Mayorga-Baires before hitting her, but he stayed at the scene to wait for first responders.
