Emerson Softball Tournament Benefits Memorial Art Scholarship EMERSON, N.J. -- The first annual "Shine on for Stephanie" softball tournament will be held in Emerson on Saturday, June 18. Proceeds from the event benefit the Stephanie Morgan Art Scholarship, given in memory of Morgan, who died last spring in a car accident. She was 18 years old and a senior at Emerson Jr./Sr. High School. Fort Lee Arts And Music Fest Postponed Until October FORT LEE, N.J. -- The annual Fort Lee Arts & Music Fest was postponed from June 5 to Oct. 2 because of inclement weather -- and there are still some available vendor spots. Interested vendors or artists can get the applications online: here for vendors and here for artists. The application deadline is Sept. 1. The rescheduled festival will take place on Lemoine Avenue between Main Street and Bruce Reynolds Boulevard on Sunday, Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call the Fort Lee Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs at 201-693-2763.

The event featured bouncy houses, obstacle courses and an all-time favorite, the teacher dunk tank. Lunch included hamburgers, hot dogs, watermelon, corn on the cob and Rita's Italian Ices. Rutherford's Lincoln School Commemorates Flag Day RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- First-grade students of Lincoln School in Rutherford recently commemorated Flag Day. They placed flags along the walkways leading up the front of the school, on Montross Avenue. Flag Day is celebrated on June 14, and it commemorates the the Second Continental Congress' adoption of the flag, on June 14, 1777. President Woodrow Wilson established June 14 as Flag Day in 1916, and in 1949, National Flag Day was established by an act of Congress -- but it's still not a federal holiday.

Rutherford Band, Choir Score High At Boston Music Festival RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Rutherford High School band and choir traveled to the High Note Music Festival in Boston on May 20 -- and scored quite well. The bank scored a high "Excellent" and the choir secured the coveted "Superior" ranking. "Our musicians spent the rest of the trip exploring historic Boston, sailing in the Boston harbor and dominating roller coasters at Six Flags of New England," organizers noted.

Les Leathem, education coordinator of the New Jersey Bike & Walk Coalition, and his instructors not only taught safety skills but had all students riding a bike by the end of the event.
