Darien's Alex Ostberg Wins 5K At National Track Meet DARIEN, Conn. – Darien’s Alex Ostberg won the 5,000-meter championship Friday at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in North Carolina. Ostberg finished in 14:16.61 for the 3.1-mile distance, the fastest time in the United States this year and the second fastest time in the history of the race. Elijah Armstrong of Idaho finished a distance second in 14:29.58 as Ostberg broke from the pack midway through the race and never looked back. Friday Accidents Tie Up Merritt Traffic In Stamford, Westport FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Two accidents on the Merritt Parkway Northbound tied up the start of Friday’s rush hour traffic. An accident was reported at Exit 35, High Ridge Road, in Stamford at 4:26 p.m. An accident at Exit 42 in Westport also tied up Northbound traffic.

Norwalk Pitcher Rocco Cundari Signs With Atlanta Braves NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk baseball pitcher Rocco Cundari signed a free agent contract Thursday with the Atlanta Braves. Cundari is coming off an excellent season at Southern Connecticut State University, where he went 5-3 with a 1.56 ERA in 12 appearances. He struck out 66 batters and walked 17 in 80 2/3 innings and tied for the team lead in wins. He was named the Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Year, and won a host of other awards.
