Wilton Mother Survives Cancer, Takes Challenge Head On WILTON, Conn. – Cancer kicked the ever-energetic Kathleen Gioffre of Wilton hard. Not surprisingly, the Wilton mother of three kicked back even harder. Gioffre will ride the 25-mile leg of the Connecticut Challenge on Saturday, July 26, as co-captain of Team Sempre Avanti, named after her life’s motto, “Always Forward”. Greenwich Teens Recognized For Gathering, Recycling Eyeglasses GREENWICH, Conn. -- Six Greenwich teens, all members of the tri-state community service group Teen-Works, were recognized by the Greenwich Lions Club for their work in gathering and recycling more than 1,200 pairs of prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses. The 4-year old Teen-Works project is called “Recycle for Sight.” Since its inception, Teen-Works members have received donations of more than 4,000 pairs of prescription eyeglasses. Friday Accidents Result In Near-Gridlock Across Fairfield County update: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The traffic delays eased by late Friday evening, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said. Ernest DiMattia Jr., President Of Stamford's Ferguson Library, Dies At 74 STAMFORD, Conn. -- Ernest A. DiMattia Jr., the president of Stamford's Ferguson Library who ushered the library into the digital age and during his 38-year tenure oversaw the renovation of the main library and all three of its branches, died Thursday of cancer at the age of 74. Accident Jams Merritt Parkway On Morning Rush In Stamford Update: STAMFORD, Conn. -- The accident has been cleared, DOT said.
