Take Your Child To The Library Day At Port Chester-Rye Brook Library PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Families will converge on Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library for "Take Your Child to the Library Day" Feb. 6.  Families can listen to winter stories and songs and participate in special seasonal activities at 11 a.m.  The Disney Pixar film "Inside Out" will be shown at 1 p.m.  Families also can visit the library any time throughout the day to design and color a Dr. Seuss cutout hat or play a board game or puzzle.

Westlake Middle School Club Collects Donations For Pets MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. -- Westlake Middle School's All 4's on Paws club collected some much-needed blankets, toys, treats and food at its annual pet supply drive.  Committed to raising pet adoption awareness, the club used its holiday time to hold a drive for supplies that were donated to the Briarcliff Manor SPCA.  The club also visits the shelter and assists staff members during adoption events.

Former Stamford Official Appointed Acting Head Of State Labor Department STAMFORD, Conn. -- Dennis Murphy of Stamford will serve as acting commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Labor as of Jan. 1. “I’ve known and worked with Dennis for many years – he is an outstanding public servant," said Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. "I want to thank him for taking on a critical role.” Murphy's appointment will last until Malloy finds a permanent successor for the retiring Sharon M. Palmer. He currently serves as deputy commissioner of the state Department of Labor and is the former director of human resources for the city of Stamford.

Mahopac Man Dies In Motorcycle Accident MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- Zachary Zappala, 26, of Mahopac, died after his motorcycle collided with a car on Baldwin Place Road, according to a report in lohud.com. According to lohud.com, the 2007 Mahopac High School graduate's Yamaha motorcycle crashed head-on with a BMW on Saturday and died the following morning at Westchester Medical Center, lohud reported. A funeral was held Thursday morning at St. John the Evangelist Church. Police said the driver of the BMW declined medical attention and has not been charged, according to lohud.com.
